Abigiya Wondimagegnehu Tilahun

Abigiya was born and raised in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. She received her BSc degree in public health from Mada Walabu University and completed her masters of public health in epidemiology from Addis Ababa University. She’s a lecturer at Addis Ababa University, School of Public Health and currently working on her Ph.D. at Martin Luther University in Germany.

Abigiya’s current research project is “Designing, implementing and evaluating de-centralized cancer service: Patient navigation and psychosocial intervention in the routine cancer care in Ethiopia”. Her research interests include mental health epidemiology, genetics and cancer; particularly looking at the impact of psychosocial services on adherence to treatment, reduction in mental health problems, and improving quality of life of chronic patients. She’s keen to share her knowledge and experience through lecturing, publications and scientific conferences, working to expand her knowledge, expertise and contribute to the body of evidence. In her spare time, she loves listening to spiritual songs, going for walks and enjoying beautiful Ethiopian coffee ceremony with family and friends.
